Conjunction

Definition

Let pp and qq be propositions. The conjunction of pp and qq is the proposition p∧qp \land q, read "pp and qq". The proposition p∧qp \land q is true when pp is true and qq is true. In all other cases, p∧qp \land q is false.

pp qq p∧qp \land q

F T F
F F F

Remarks

Conjunction is commutative and associative: p∧qp \land q has the same truth value as q∧pq \land p. The intersection of two sets uses conjunction: x∈A∩Bx \in A \cap B means x∈A∧x∈Bx \in A \land x \in B.

Explanations

L1 human

The sentence "66 is even and 66 is divisible by 33" is a conjunction. It is true, because both parts are true. If one part is false, the whole sentence is false.

What this node needs for W2
  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 2 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
  • no evidence level

  2. Conjunction definition

What depends on this

170 nodes use this node, directly or through other nodes.
