Path-connected space

Definition

Let XX be a topological space. A path in XX from xx to yy is a continuous map γ ⁣:[0,1]→X\gamma \colon [0, 1] \to X with γ(0)=x\gamma(0) = x and γ(1)=y\gamma(1) = y. The space XX is path-connected when XX is nonempty and for all x,y∈Xx, y \in X there is a path in XX from xx to yy. A subset of XX is path-connected when it is path-connected in the subspace topology.

Remarks

Some authors do not require XX to be nonempty. Each convex subset of Rn\mathbb{R}^n is path-connected: use the segment γ(t)=(1−t)x+ty\gamma(t) = (1 - t)x + ty. Path-connected spaces are connected. The topologist's sine curve is connected but not path-connected.

Explanations

L1 human

A space is path-connected when you can walk from each point to each other point along a continuous path inside the space. This is a concrete way to show that a space is in one piece.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What depends on this

4 nodes use this node, directly or through other nodes.
