Path component

Definition

Let XX be a topological space. For x,y∈Xx, y \in X, write x≃yx \simeq y when there is a path in XX from xx to yy. This is an equivalence relation on XX. Its classes are the path components of XX.

Remarks

The relation is reflexive by constant paths, symmetric by t↦γ(1−t)t \mapsto \gamma(1 - t), and transitive by joining two paths one after the other. The path component of xx is the largest path-connected subset of XX that contains xx. Each path component lies in a connected component. The topologist's sine curve is one connected component but has two path components. Path components need not be closed.

Explanations

L1 human

The path component of a point is the set of all points that you can reach from it along a path.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
