Completeness of the space of bounded continuous functions
Statement
Let be a topological space and let be a complete metric space. Let be the set of continuous maps whose image is bounded in . For , let , with when is empty. Then is a complete metric space.
Remarks
For , the metric is the uniform metric, and it comes from the sup norm. Proof sketch: a Cauchy sequence in is Cauchy at each point , so it has a pointwise limit in . The convergence is uniform, and a uniform limit of continuous maps is continuous. The limit is also bounded. For a compact space , each continuous map to is bounded, so is complete with the sup metric.
Explanations
L1 human
If continuous functions get closer and closer to each other uniformly, then they converge uniformly to a function. The key point is that this limit function is again continuous, so the limit stays in the space.
What this node needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
