Galois field
Description
For each prime power , the Galois field , also written , is the finite field with elements. It exists, and it is unique up to isomorphism. One model is the splitting field of over . Another model is for an irreducible polynomial of degree .
Remarks
The name honours Évariste Galois. The field has the elements , with . The field is isomorphic to a subfield of if and only if divides .
Explanations
L1 human
Since there is only one finite field of each order, up to a change of names, one gives it a fixed name: the Galois field with elements. Computations in it are done with polynomials over the integers modulo .
What this node needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- field same_as: the identifiers in the databases (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
