Quotient ring
Definition
Let be a ring and let be a two-sided ideal of . For , the coset of is . The quotient ring is the set of the cosets of , with these operations: These operations do not depend on the choice of and in their cosets. With them, is a ring with zero and identity .
Remarks
Two elements have the same coset if and only if . The map , , is a surjective ring homomorphism with kernel . For , the quotient is the ring of integers modulo . The quotient is the zero ring.
Explanations
L1 human
To make the quotient ring, you declare all the elements of to be zero. Two elements become equal when their difference is in . For , the numbers and become the same element.
What this node needs for W2
- edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
- edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
