Field extension
Definition
Let and be fields. The field is an extension of if is a subfield of . One writes for this field extension.
Remarks
Often one also calls an extension of when there is an injective ring homomorphism . Then one identifies with its image. An extension makes a vector space over . Its dimension is the degree of the extension. Examples: , and . The notation does not mean a quotient.
Explanations

A field extension is a bigger field that contains a given field. For example, the complex numbers extend the real numbers by an element with . Field theory studies how the bigger field is built from the smaller one.
What this node needs for W2
- edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
- edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
