Abelianisation
Definition
Let be a group and let be its commutator subgroup. The abelianisation of is the quotient group .
Remarks
The group is abelian, by this criterion. If is abelian, then . The abelianisation of the symmetric group for is cyclic of order , and the sign of a permutation gives the isomorphism.
Explanations
L1 human
The abelianisation forces all elements of a group to commute, and changes nothing more than it must. It keeps as much information about the group as an abelian group can keep. For a group that is already abelian, it does nothing.
What this node needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
