statement theorem

Second Sylow theorem

Statement

Let GG be a finite group and let pp be a prime number. Then any two Sylow p-subgroups PP and QQ of GG are conjugate: there is a g∈Gg \in G with Q=gPg−1Q = gPg^{-1}. Moreover, each pp-subgroup of GG is contained in some Sylow pp-subgroup of GG.

Remarks

So all Sylow pp-subgroups of GG are isomorphic. A Sylow pp-subgroup is normal in GG if and only if np=1n_p = 1. The proof lets a pp-subgroup HH act on the left cosets of PP and uses the fixed point lemma.

Explanations

L1 human

The Sylow pp-subgroups of a group can look different as subsets. But each one can be moved onto each other one by a conjugation. So, up to a renaming, there is only one Sylow pp-subgroup.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
