Conjugacy class
Definition
Let be a group and let . The conjugacy class of is the set .
Remarks
The conjugacy classes are the equivalence classes of the relation "is conjugate to", so they partition . They are the orbits of the action by conjugation. The class of is if and only if lies in the centre of . In the symmetric group , the conjugacy classes are given by the cycle types.
Explanations
L1 human
The conjugacy class of an element collects all the elements that look like it after a renaming by conjugation. In an abelian group, each element is alone in its class. In , the three transpositions form one class, and the two -cycles form another class.
What this node needs for W2
- edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
- edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
