Phase plane
Summary
The phase plane of a planar autonomous system , is the plane with coordinates , the two state variables. Each solution traces a curve in this plane, its trajectory. The vector is tangent to the trajectory through . It is the two-dimensional case of the phase space.
Remarks
A second-order equation gives a planar system with . Its phase plane has the position and the velocity as coordinates. For a linear system with a real matrix , the eigenvalues of determine the shape of the trajectories. See the classification of planar linear systems.
Explanations
L1 human
The phase plane shows the two state variables at once, without the time axis. Each point is a state, and the system moves from state to state along a curve.
What this node needs for W2
- edge defines in: at least one definition (0 of 1)
- edge instance_of in: at least two examples (0 of 2)
- edge not_instance_of in: at least one non-example (0 of 1)
