statement corollary

Logarithm of a power

Statement

For every real x>0x > 0 and every natural number nn, ln⁡(xn)=nln⁡x.\ln(x^n) = n \ln x.

Remarks

Induction on nn with the product rule for logarithms gives the claim. For real exponents, ln⁡(xa)=aln⁡x\ln(x^a) = a \ln x holds by the definition xa=ealn⁡xx^a = e^{a \ln x}. Mathlib states it as Real.log_pow.

Explanations

L1 human

The logarithm brings an exponent down as a factor. For example, ln⁡(x3)=3ln⁡x\ln(x^3) = 3 \ln x.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
