Line integral of a scalar field
Definition
Let be a rectifiable curve with image , and let be continuous. For a partition and points , let be the length of the restriction of to . The line integral of along is the limit taken as .
Remarks
The limit exists, and it does not depend on the choice of the points . For a curve, . This is the parametric formula. For the line integral is the length of . If is a wire with linear density , the line integral is its mass. The value does not change under a reparametrisation of , in either direction.
Explanations
L1 human
Walk along the curve, and at each small step multiply the length of the step by the value of there. The sum of these products, in the limit of small steps, is the line integral with respect to arc length.
What this node needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
