Order on the natural numbers

Definition

Let aa and bb be natural numbers. The notation a≤ba \le b means that there is a natural number cc with a+c=ba + c = b, where ++ is the addition of N\mathbb{N}. The notation a<ba < b means that a≤ba \le b and a≠ba \neq b.

Remarks

The relation ≤\le is a total order on N\mathbb{N}: it is reflexive, antisymmetric and transitive, and a≤ba \le b or b≤ab \le a for all aa and bb. The order agrees with the operations: if a≤ba \le b, then a+c≤b+ca + c \le b + c and ac≤bca c \le b c for each natural number cc. Each nonempty set of natural numbers has a least element for this order. This is the well-ordering principle.

Explanations

L1 human

The number aa is at most bb when you can get from aa to bb by adding something. For example, 3≤73 \le 7 because 3+4=73 + 4 = 7, but 7≤37 \le 3 is false because no natural number added to 77 gives 33.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 6 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
  • no evidence level

  6. Order on the natural numbers definition

What depends on this

3 nodes use this node, directly or through other nodes.
