definition

Sequential continuity

Definition

Let D⊆RD \subseteq \mathbb{R} and let f ⁣:D→Rf \colon D \to \mathbb{R} be a function. The function ff is sequentially continuous if the following holds. For each sequence (xn)(x_n) in DD that converges to a point a∈Da \in D, the sequence (f(xn))(f(x_n)) converges to f(a)f(a).

Remarks

For real functions, sequential continuity is the same as continuity. The definition is useful to prove that a function is not continuous. It is enough to find one sequence xn→ax_n \to a with f(xn)↛f(a)f(x_n) \not\to f(a). Mathlib defines it for topological spaces, as SeqContinuous.

Explanations

L1 human

A sequentially continuous function preserves limits of sequences. The function of the limit is the limit of the function values.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 4 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.

What depends on this

9 nodes use this node, directly or through other nodes.
