Heaviside step function
Description
The Heaviside step function is the function with for and for . Conventions for the value differ: common choices are , and . For and with , the Laplace transform of is .
Remarks
The function switches a signal on at the time . For example, is before and after . For with a Laplace transform and , the shifted function has the transform . In the sense of distributions, the derivative of is the Dirac delta. It is named after Oliver Heaviside.
Explanations
L1 human
The step function is off before time and on after it. It models a switch, such as a voltage turned on at one instant.
What this node needs for W2
- section Invariants: a table of the main invariants (0 of 1)
- edge instance_of out (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
