Complement graph

Definition

Let G=(V,E)G = (V, E) be a graph. The complement of GG is the graph G‾\overline{G} with vertex set VV. Two distinct vertices are adjacent in G‾\overline{G} if and only if they are not adjacent in GG.

Remarks

The complement of the complement of GG is GG. The complement of the complete graph KnK_n is the graph on nn vertices with no edges. A clique of GG is an independent set of G‾\overline{G}. This links Ramsey numbers to colourings of KnK_n.

Explanations

L1 human

To get the complement, remove all edges of the graph and draw all the missing ones. If GG records which people know each other, then G‾\overline{G} records which people are strangers.

What this node needs for W2
  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 2 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
  • no evidence level
