Addition formula for Fibonacci numbers

Statement

Let mm and nn be natural numbers, and let FkF_k be the Fibonacci numbers. Then Fm+n+1=FmFn+Fm+1Fn+1.F_{m+n+1} = F_m F_n + F_{m+1} F_{n+1}.

Remarks

With m=nm = n it gives F2n+1=Fn2+Fn+12F_{2n+1} = F_n^2 + F_{n+1}^2. An equivalent form is Fm+n=Fm−1Fn+FmFn+1F_{m+n} = F_{m-1} F_n + F_m F_{n+1} for m≥1m \ge 1. The formula is the basis of fast algorithms that compute FnF_n with O(log⁡n)O(\log n) arithmetic operations.

Explanations

To get a Fibonacci number with a large index, you can combine Fibonacci numbers with smaller indices. For example, with m=2m = 2 and n=3n = 3: F6=F2F3+F3F4=1⋅2+2⋅3=8F_6 = F_2 F_3 + F_3 F_4 = 1 \cdot 2 + 2 \cdot 3 = 8.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 2 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
  • no evidence level
