Function space
Example
Let be a field, let be a set, and let be a vector space over . The set of all functions is a vector space over with the pointwise operations for , and . The zero vector is the function with value at each point.
Remarks
For and , this is the coordinate space . The continuous functions form a subspace of . If is infinite and , then is infinite-dimensional.
Explanations

We add two functions by adding their values at each point. We scale a function by scaling its values. With these rules, functions behave like vectors, and the zero function is the zero vector.
