Discrete metric

Example

Let XX be a set. For x,y∈Xx, y \in X, let d(x,y)=0d(x, y) = 0 if x=yx = y and d(x,y)=1d(x, y) = 1 if x≠yx \neq y. Then dd is a metric on XX, the discrete metric.

Remarks

For each x∈Xx \in X, the open ball of radius 1/21/2 about xx is {x}\{x\}. Thus each subset of XX is open, and the metric gives the discrete topology. A sequence converges in this metric if and only if it is eventually constant.

Explanations

L1 human

In the discrete metric, two points are either equal or at distance 11. No point is close to another point, so the space has no interesting limits.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
